BLACK PARENTS GROUP FORMS FOR SO-M SCHOOLS

From Alt Press:

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - A new organization of concerned parents held a community forum at the Maplewood Memorial Library on Saturday to discuss the problems encountered by black students in the South Orange-Maplewood school district.

The “SOMA Parents of Students of African Descent Workshop” is seeking to identify and change aspects of the educational experience in the district that they see as unfair.

Walter Fields, one of the group’s organizers, described the group as “a group of concerned parents who have come together over the plight of black students in our school district.”  He said the group’s goal is “not constant conversation, but action to change the school district, given all that we know about racial disparities in our school district and individual cases of disparate treatment.”
He went on to say that there is an attitude in the district that seems to suggest “that our black children are not capable, a low expectation that is put upon them and results in many of our brilliant, gifted, bright young black boys and girls underachieving in our schools.”

The group has a moral mission, he said, that “our children deserve to have equal access to the best education possible that will give them a bright future in this world and nothing less.  We come not to talk about disparity, but we come to hold the Board of Education and the School District accountable for what we see as an unacceptable disparity and treatment of our children.”

CHILD SEX ABUSE COMMUNITY MEETING TODAY

10:00am

The statistics are alarming; experts estimate one in ten (1-in-10) children will be sexually abused before their eighteenth birthday. The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges will be holding a Prevent Now! Community Awareness Meeting to address this community issue on March 28, 2014, 10am-12pm at Prospect Presbyterian Church located at 646 Prospect Street in Maplewood, New Jersey. The workshop is aimed at helping people understand the problem of child sexual abuse, and how we can all work together to keep our children safe. The event is free and open to the public, however, registration is required. Please visit http://www.metroymcas.org/preventnow to register.

Why child sexual abuse prevention? The Metro YMCAs of the Oranges believes protecting children from sexual abuse is an adult responsibility. As adults, we strap children into car seats, we hold their hand across busy streets, and ask where they are going and who they will be with - all to keep them safe. As adults, we must also take steps to protect them from sexual abuse.

MEET CHRISTIE'S BRIDGEGATE INVESTIGATION PAL WHO, SURPRISE, EXONERATED HIM

Christie lawyer Randy Mastro
So it seems that the law firm that took $1 million of your tax money to investigate their pal, Chris Christie, and exonerate him in the Bridgegate scandal is not just some law group.

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher is a very political legal firm that also has a lobbying division.

Records show the firm and its employees have contributed more than $475,000 to political candidates and campaigns since 2003.

It's lobbying arm, meanwhile, took in $1.3 million from corporate clients that included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable, as well as General Electric.

Attorney Randy Mastro, who represented the firm's findings today, is also something of a notable figure in legal cricles, and not always for the underdog.

Rain Forest Action Network calls him a "human rights hitman" for his efforts to defend Chevron against pollution charges, while Crain's New York Business describes him as the "maestro of mischief."

Mastro also worked as a close adviser to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, sparking the New York Daily News to dub him Giuliani's "wartime consigliere."

SCAM $1 MILLION REVIEW OF BRIDGEGATE CLEARS GOVERNOR

So after they finish investigating the Bridgegate scandal, if they ever do, they need to investigate how Gov. Christie could spend $1 million of our tax money to hire his pal to investigate him and then claim it as an honest review.

See the story about how his friend, of course, cleared him HERE.

Unreal what passes for competent oversight.
