He was a tireless advocate for human rights around the world and I was proud to have him as my representative in Congress. He was a man whose commitment to public service I definitely admired. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a number of occasions and he was always a true gentleman as well. He and his family are in my prayers....may he rest in peace.

India LarrierI was saddened to hear of Donald Payne's passing. The Congressman set a very high bar. He was a compassionate, savvy and principled statesman. I will remember him for his tireless and lengthy effort on behalf of the communities he represented, as well as those people in need across the country and around the world. I know, personally, that he was a mentor and positive role model to countless people. He will be greatly missed and never matched. His family and his staff have my prayers and condolences.
Mayor Vic De Luca has yet to respond to a request for comment.
