CHS SOFTBALL OFF TO BIG START

If any team can get off to a great start it is the Columbia High softball team.

The CHS women have started with two big wins this week, enough to get the attention of the Star-Ledger:

Columbia (11) at Villa Walsh (8) - Softball

April 02, 2013 9:42 p.m.
After Zoe Labat doubled with one out in the top of the eighth and moved to third on a wild pitch, Mackenzie Conlon drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice as Columbia went on to post an 11-8 victory over Villa Walsh in Morristown.
Taryn Williams added a two-run single in the eighth for insurance and Williams shut down Villa Walsh 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame for the victory in relief.
Columbia sent the game into extra innings in the top of the seventh, scoring on an error. Zoe Labat singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Freshman Peyton Hassler then hit a slow moving ground ball between third and the pitcher that was misplayed at first, allowing Labat to score and tie the game.
Phoebe Labat led a 14-hit attack for Columbia by going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two triples. Williams finished with two hits and two RBI. Annie McCluskey, Juliana Strelec and Veronica Manley had two each hits for Villa Walsh.

Cheer them on again today at 4 p.m. as they travel to Newark

Academy in Livingston.
