DELAYED COURT APPEARANCE FOR TRANSGENDER MURDER SUSPECT

   From the News-Record:

The alleged gunman charged with slaying a transgender model in Maplewood had his next court date pushed back until the end of January.

Alrashim Chambers, indicted for murder in the September 2010 homicide of Victoria Carmen White, was scheduled to be in superior court Jan. 10 for lawyers to pick a trial date.

But the appearance was adjourned until Jan. 31.

Indicted last year, he faces life in prison if convicted.

Chambers, 25, has been held in the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1 million bail since surrendering to Newark police in October 2010.

His codefendant in the case, Marquise Foster, has pleaded guilty to a lesser offense.
