NEW RECREATION DIRECTOR HIRED

News-Record reports:

An administrator with more than 10 years experience in municipal government was hired Jan. 7 as Maplewood’s director of recreation and cultural affairs.

Keith E. Knudsen decided to leave his job as West Milford Township’s recreation director to come to Maplewood. He will start Jan. 30. He was one of two finalists vying to replace George Rague, who was let go after four years.

Starting this month, Knudsen will be responsible for recreation and cultural affairs and the municipal pool — entities that have combined budgets of roughly $1.3 million.
The exact number of employees that Knudsen will supervise was not available Jan. 9, although there are large numbers of part-time help during the summer.

Knudsen’s salary will be $83,500, according to Joseph F. Manning, the township administrator, in a phone interview Jan. 9.
