ARMED ROBBERY, LAUNDROMAT BURGLARY MARK POLICE WEEK


Maplewood Police issued this report late Monday:


April 30, 2012: Warrant Arrest. On 4/30/12 at approximately 5:24 pm, Officers M. Bertone and P. Klebaur observed two men walking on Jacoby Street in possession of an open container of alcohol. Officers subsequently learned that Brooks Walker, 31, of Irvington, NJ was wanted out of the City of East Orange on a criminal charge. Brooks was placed in custody and later turned over to East Orange Police Department. Both men were issued summonses for a violation of a Township Ordinance.

May 3, 2012: Burglary. On 5/3/12, at approximately 5:00 am, officers responded to a report of a burglary at an Irvington Avenue laundry mat. A witness had reportedly heard an alarm sounding, and upon investigation, saw a person running across Irvington Avenue carrying a television set. Officers discovered a large rock by the back door apparently used to force entry. The TV that was stolen is described as a 42 inch Emerson brand television. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

May 4, 2012: Shoplifting. On 5/4/12, at approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to Kasper’s Liquor Store on Springfield Avenue on a 9-1-1 disconnected call. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unknown male had shoplifted a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka and a bottle of Sky Vodka before fleeing east on Springfield Avenue. The suspect was described a thin male in his early 20’s, approximately 5’11- 6’00 tall wearing a black hooded North Face jacket and blue jeans.

May 7, 2012: Robbery. On 5/7/12, at approximately 12:25 am, officers were advised that a robbery had occurred in the area of Boyden Avenue and Harding Street The victim reported that he was walking from a friend’s house when he observed a red older model Honda pull over to the side of the road. As he continued walking, the victim reported that he was approached by a light complexion black male, about 16-18 years of age, approximately 5’8” tall wearing a black sweatshirt and dark jeans. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded victim’s cell phone, which he produced. The suspect then fled the scene in the vehicle being operated by a dark complexion black male wearing a grey sweatshirt. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
