JEFFERSON SCHOOL POT BUST, VANDALISM ARREST MARK POLICE WEEK



An apparent marijuana bust on the playground of Jefferson School leads this week's police report. It appears to have occurred in the early morning hours last Thursday...

April 26, 2012: Narcotics Arrests. On 04/26/12, at approximately 3:00 am officers responded to a Ridgewood Road school on a report of juveniles congregating in the playground. One subject fled from Officer S. Gearren upon his arrival. Subsequent to a field investigation, officers recovered a small glass bowl commonly used for smoking marijuana and a tin canister containing three plastic bags with a substance that field tested positive for marijuana. Four suspects were arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing on charges ranging from possession of drug paraphernalia to possession of CDS (under 50 grams of marijuana)

April 24, 2012: Malicious Damage. On 04/24/12, officers responded to a Boyden Avenue store front on a report of a broken plate glass window. Responding officers quickly determined that the window had been deliberately broken, and developed a suspect and a witness to the incident. Subsequent to a field investigation by Officer T. Kincaid and an investigation by Detective R. Smith, resident Brandon Hughes, 21, of 14 Newark Way, Maplewood was summonsed on charges of criminal mischief.


April 26, 2012: Graffiti. On 04/26/12, officers responded to Memorial Park on a report of graffiti located underneath the Oakview Avenue Bridge. The graffiti consisted of numerous words and drawings and occurred during an unknown time frame. The police department is asking that anyone with information relating to this or other graffiti incidents please contact Detective Baez of the Youth Aid Bureau at 973-762-3400 Ext. 7924.

April 27, 2012: Motor Vehicle Theft. On 04/27/12, an Elmwood Avenue resident reported that his 2003 Jeep Liberty was stolen from outside his residence. The owner reported that he had parked the vehicle at approximately 11:00 pm on 4/26/12 and discovered it missing at approximately 6:00 am on 4/27/12. The vehicle was later recovered in Orange, NJ.

April 28, 2012: Theft from Vehicle. On 04/28/12, a Peachtree Road resident reported that unknown suspect(s) removed several items from his unlocked vehicle between 7:00 pm on 4/27/12 and 12:05 am on 4/28/12. Items reported missing from the vehicle included a GPS unit, prescription medicine bottles, and five books of raffle tickets.
