MAPLEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL ADDITION PLAN OUT

The school district posted this item about the proposed MMS addition plan, but does not note the $2.9 million price tag.....

Maplewood Middle School Addition Planned

mms plan

The School District of South Orange and Maplewood anticipates increased enrollment in its middle schools.  The planned 3-story addition to Maplewood Middle School will provide seven new classrooms to accommodate the higher enrollment.  The district is taking advantage of the need for an addition to create new science classrooms and labs to replace old, out of date science rooms.  This will greatly enhance students’ opportunities to explore science, and ensure that there is sufficient space to accommodate all students.

Cheryl Schneider, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, presented an overview of the plan to the Board of Education on April 23, 2012, and shared plans with neighbors at a special Board meeting on May 7, 2012.

The addition will be located to the Maple Avenue side of the existing building.  Work is anticipated to begin in September 2012 and be completed by August 2013.  The district will take every possible measure to minimize any inconvenience to the neighborhood.

If any questions or concerns arise regarding the addition, please contact Cheryl Schneider at 973-762-5600 ext. 1800 or cschneid@somsd.k12.nj.us.
