WALGREEN'S SHOPLIFTER, BURGLARIES AND SCHOOL GRAFFITI TOP POLICE WEEK

Released Monday from Maplewood Police:

May 24, 2012: Malicious Damage. On 5/24/12, officers responded to an Irvington Avenue address on a report of damage to a motor vehicle that had occurred overnight. The owner reported that he had parked his 2010 Nissan Maxima at 8:30 pm on 5/23/12 and when he returned to it at 7:30 am on 5/24/12 he observed his windows rolled down and the driver’s side door lock to be damaged. In addition, the glove box had been rummaged through but no items were reported missing.

May 25, 2012: Shoplifting (Arrest Made). On 5/25/12, officers responded to the Walgreens’s Store located at 1633 Springfield Ave. on a report of a shoplifting. Employees on scene indicated that a male, later identified as Robert Wright, 39, of Newark, had shoplifted several boxes of condoms and Advil pain medicine. Wright was placed in custody, and 14 boxes of condoms and 6 boxes of Advil were recovered. Wright was also determined to be wanted out of both East Orange and Maplewood.

May 26, 2012: Malicious Damage. On 5/26/12, a Burnett Avenue business employee reported that unknown persons damaged his dump truck by breaking the two front headlamps and detaching the passenger’s side convex mirror.

May 27, 2012: Burglary. On 5/27/12, officers responded to a Crestwood Drive residence on a report of a burglary that had occurred sometime between 4:00 pm on 5/25/12 and 6:35 pm on 5/27/12. Unknown suspect(s) apparently forced entry to a rear door and removed assorted items of jewelry and credit cards from the residence. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

May 28, 2012: Burglary. On 5/28/12, officers responded to a Park Avenue residence on a report of a burglary that had occurred sometime between 4:00 pm on 5/26/12 and noon on 5/28/12. Unknown suspect(s) apparently gained entry through an unlocked window and rummaged through the house. At the time of this report, it is undetermined if anything is missing from the residence. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

May 28, 2012: Graffiti. On 5/28/12, officers responded to the playground area of Jefferson School on Ridgewood Road on a report of graffiti. Officers located a series of writing and drawings and notified school officials. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Youth Aid Bureau at 973-762-3400.
