BURGLARIES, SHOOTING AND MORE MARK POLICE WEEK

July 30,2012, Burglary; A Wetmore Rd resident reports that sometime during the daytime a screen to an open window was cut and an entry was gained to the home.  Cash was reported missing from the home.

July 30, 2012, Burglary; A business, Akuba Fashion, was reportedly burglarized.  Several handbags, jewelry and clothing were reported to have been taken.

August 2, 2012, Aggravated Assault/Shooting. At approximately 2211 Hrs, an aggravated assault/shooting occurred on Irvington Ave at the South Orange border.  The 16 and 18 year old victims report that an argument occurred between one of them and the driver of a white sedan.  Apparently, one of the victims was crossing Irvington Ave in South Orange and the driver of the vehicle swerved at the victim, cursed at him and then pulled his vehicle to the side of the road just into Maplewood.  The actor then exited his vehicle and an argument ensued.  The actor re-entered his vehicle, fired four shots at the victims from a handgun and then drove off East on Irvington Ave.  No one was hit by the gun shots, but two homes in South Orange were struck and incurred damage.  The matter is being investigated by the Detective Bureau. *

August,3, 2012, Burglary; At 1230 AM, a witness observed a male exiting a broken window to MS&K Confectionary on Prospect St.  The black male entered into a van that was parked in the parking lot next to the business.  Lottery tickets were reportedly taken from the business.  Union Township had a similar incident an hour earlier.  The matter is currently under investigation and possible suspects have been identified. 

August 3, 2012, Burglary, At approximately 6 PM, three juveniles and a young adult were observed loitering around a home on Menzel Ave.  A neighbor observed this, knew the resident was not home and contacted the police when he observed three of the males walk behind the home.  Officers arrived on scene and engaged in a foot pursuit with three of the individuals who fled against officers commands.  All four individuals were apprehended and taken into custody.  The group was found to be in possession of a laptop stolen from another residence on the same street.

August 4, 2012, Armed Robbery, An officer conducting radar was approached by a resident who reported he was robbed on 08/03, at approximately 9 PM.  He reports he was walking in the area of Wellesley St and Amherst Court when a black vehicle pulled up and three black males approached him.  One of the males had a handgun and they demanded his money.  They too $10 and a cell phone from the victim.  The males were described as being between the ages of 17 and 20 years old. 

August 5, 2012, Attempt Motor Vehicle Theft, Boyden Friendly Service Station reported that a vehicle parked in their lot was damaged.  The vehicle had damage to the door lock and ignition.
