* LOCATIONS... NASSAU COUNTY... THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY... AND INTERIOR PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT.
* HAZARDS... HIGH LEVELS OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES... AROUND 100 DUE TO TEMPERATURES FROM AROUND 90 TO THE MID 90S... AND DEWPOINTS IN THE MID TO UPPER 60S.
* TIMING... HIGHEST HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL OCCUR DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING ON MONDAY.
* IMPACTS... IF NO PROTECTIVE ACTION IS TAKEN... INITIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE FATIGUE. SUNSTROKE... MUSCLE CRAMPS... AND/OR HEAT EXHAUSTION ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY... CALL 9 1 1.
A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN THE COMBINATION OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS AT LEAST 95 DEGREES FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS OR IF HEAT INDEX VALUES REACH 100 TO 104 DEGREES. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE... RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
