TWO DAYTIME ROBBERIES LEAD BUSY POLICE WEEK

From Maplewood police today

July 11, 2013: Robbery; At approximately 1:10 PM, a 14 year old juvenile from Irvington approached a 12 year old juvenile and Maplewood resident at the Walgreens on Springfield Ave.  The 14 year old pushed the 12 year old against the building, stole his bicycle and rode off on it.  The actor was stopped by Irvington police officers while attempting to flee on Springfield Ave.  He was placed under arrest and charge with robbery.

July 08, 2013: Robbery;  At approximately 6 PM, a twenty one year old Maplewood resident was riding his bicycle in the area of Richmond Ave and Parker Ave.  While doing so, he was approached by two male, pushed from his bicycle and then assaulted in an attempt to steal his personal bag and containing a cell phone.  This was witnessed by several people who contacted the police department.  Upon officer’s arrival, two individuals were observed fleeing the area through backyards.  One of the actors was able to be apprehended.  A 22 year old male, Rashon Spruill ofIrvington was positively identified and charged with assault, robbery and resisting arrest.

July 9, 2013: Motor Vehicle Theft; During the overnight hours, 2 Dodge Caravans were stolen from a parking lot onParker Ave.  The vehicles were left unlocked at the time.  Both have since been recovered in Newark

July 10, 2013: Theft; During the overnight hours a bicycle and a scooter were removed from an unlocked garage onHarvard Ave. 

July 10, 2013: Motor Vehicle Theft; During the overnight hours a locked Dodge Caravan was stolen from the driveway of a home on Boyden Ave.  It has since been recovered in Irvington.

July 11, 2013: Burglary; Between 945AM and 12 PM entry was forced to a home on Berkley St.  Two televisions and several other items were stolen from the home.

July 12, 2013: Motor Vehicle Theft; During the overnight hours a motorized dirt bike was taken from a unsecured shed in the rear of a home on Berkley St.

July 12, 2013: Attempt Motor Vehicle Theft; Between 2:30 and 4:30 PM a Dodge Caravan parked in a driveway onBurnett Ave was entered and it’s ignition was damaged.

July 14, 2013: Burglary; At approximately 5:30 PM, a unsecured home on Prospect St was entered and two laptops were stolen from the home.

July 14, 2013: Recovered Stolen Vehicle; At approximately 9:45 PM Officers Jones and Verdun observed a Dodge Caravan driving erratically on Springfield  Ave.  Officers  attempted to catch up to the vehicle which had turned ontoProspect St.  The vehicle sped up and then became disabled after driving over a median and striking a vehicle at the intersection of Tuscan Rd.  The Dodge Caravan became disabled and it’s operator attempted to flee on foot from officers.  The male operator was quickly taken into custody and identified as a fifteen year old from Irvington.  The vehicle was later found to be stolen.  The juvenile was charged with Eluding Police, Possession of Stolen Property and resisting Arrest as well as multiple traffic violations.
