FATAL CRASH SUSPECT PLEADS NOT GUILTY

The Star-Ledger reports:

MAPLEWOOD — The man charged in a deadly car crash in Maplewood fueled by alcohol and speeding pleaded not guilty on all counts in his first court appearance today.
Harrison Allen, 20, of Montclair, appeared before Judge Peter Vazquez in Superior Court in Newark. He has been charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated assault by auto and drunken driving, authorities say.
Wearing a blue button-down shirt, Allen stooped to the microphone and answered Vazquez saying he understood the charges against him and had been advised of his rights during the brief appearance.
Two men were killed and two others remain hospitalized following the crash where Allen allegedly blew past a stop sign at the corner of Essex Avenue and South Fourth Street at high speed and slammed into a car with four males inside, officials say.
Allen was traveling alone Tuesday night in his 2013 Chrysler 200 and sources say he drove through the residential intersection between 50 to 60 mph, twice the 25 mph speed limit of the neighborhood.
Tamir Harry, 16, and Kervin Noel, 21, both of Maplewood, were ejected from a 2001 Nissan Sentra and pronounced dead at the scene. Maplewood residents Rodney Lovius, 21, and Tahsir Harry, 20, the two backseat passengers, remain in critical condition at University Hospital in Newark.
