ARMED BREAK-IN ATTEMPT, BURGLARIES AND THEFTS MARK POLICE WEEK




Maplewood police released this week's police blotter, which includes the armed break-in attempt reported last week, along with several other crimes:

August 28, 2013: Attempt Robbery; At approximately 1 PM a resident of Brown St
called 911 and reported that two males with a handgun attempted to force their
way into the victim’s residence.  Officer’s responded to the home and the
surrounding area in an attempt to locate the suspects.  Officer Richard Wright
observed two males fitting the description of the actors walking approximately a
block away on Boyden Ave.  The males were stopped by Officer Wright along with
backup officers.  During the course of the investigatory stop, Brandon Frost age
21 and Erik Winborne age 19, both of Maplewood, were found to be in possession
of a large metal pellet gun.  Subsequently, they were both taken into custody
and charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and Possession of a
Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.  Bail was set at $250,000 and both were
transported to Essex County jail.

August 30, 2013: Burglary; Sometime over the previous few days, entry was forced
to a home on Princeton St.  At the time of the report the proceeds were not
determined.

August 30, 2013: Burglary; Sometime over the previous few days, both an
apartment and a single family home on Van Ness Terr were entered and musical
instruments and electronics were reportedly stolen.

August 30, 2013: Theft; During the overnight, equipment used for towing was
taken from a parked tow truck on Newark Way.

August 30, 2013: Motor Vehicle Theft; Sometime between 1130 PM on 8/29 and 5 AM on 8/30 a1999, Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from a driveway on Franklin Terr.

September 02, 2013: Bicycle Theft; During the overnight hours, two bicycles left

in the yard of an Orchard Rd residence were stolen.
