MAPLEWOOD TO OFFER MIDNIGHT GAY WEDDINGS EARLY MONDAY MORNING, SUNDAY NIGHT CELEBRATION

Maplewood township officials continue to lead the way on gay marriage rights, with Mayor Vic De Luca announcing upcoming plans to help residents take advantage of the recent court ruling on same-sex marriage.

The mayor issued this notice today about his plan to open Town Hall late Sunday night to allow gay weddings to take place as soon as possible just after midnight on Monday morning:

In response to the September 27th ruling by Judge Mary C. Jacobson that same sex partners in New Jersey have the right to marry, Maplewood Mayor Victor De Luca will be available to perform marriage ceremonies at 12:01am on Monday, October 21st.

On Sunday, October 20th, the Township will open its Municipal Building, 574 Valley Street, at 10:30pm to celebrate this important civil rights victory. Music will be provided by local musicians and participants will be invited to offer comments. Weddings will begin at 12:01 on Monday, October 21st.

The Maplewood Township Clerk’s office is prepared to issue marriage licenses on Friday, October 18th between the hours of 9:00am and 4:30pm.

Please note that the New Jersey Supreme Court has been asked by the governor to stay Judge Jacobson’s ruling. If the Supreme Court issues a stay prior to October 21st, the Township of Maplewood will act accordingly.

 Bravo!
