SCHOOL BOARD RACE STILL TOO CLOSE TO CALL ONE WEEK LATER

It's been more than a week since voters went to the polls to cast ballots for three of the SO-M School Board seats, but the final results are still too close to call - at least on one seat.

Since Election Night, it has been clear that Board President Beth Daugherty and challenger Johanna Wright had won the first two seats with 5,481 votes and 4,790 votes, respectively.

The question remains who will get the third seat. Incumbent David Giles so far has 4,040 votes, while challenger Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad took in 4,064 votes, a margin of just 24 votes.

Essex County Clerk officials say provisional ballots are the last that need to be counted and may well be completed today.
