TIGHT SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION NOT DECIDED UNTIL MONDAY

It looks like School Board candidates David Giles and Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad will have to wait until Monday to see which one will be on the Board of Education during the next term.

While incumbent Beth Daugherty and challenger Johanna Wright have won comfortable victories for two of the three open seats, just 24 votes separate Giles and Lawson-Muhammad with 96% of the votes counted.

An Essex County official told Maplewoodian.com that they still have to review provisional ballots and emergency ballots, which must be opened and counted by hand, a practice that will not allow results to be announced until Monday.

The latest official results are below:

  Vote Count Percent
- Johanna WRIGHT 4,790 22.08%
- Elizabeth T. DAUGHERTY 5,481 25.27%
- Marian CUTLER 3,224 14.86%
- David R. GILES 4,040 18.62%
- Stephanie M. LAWSON-MUHAMMAD 4,064 18.74%
Write-In 93 0.43%
Total 21,692 100.00%
