HUNAN WOK EMPLOYEES STOP ROBBER WHO WAS LATER ARRESTED

An armed robbery attempt at the Hunan Wok on Springfield Avenue was thwarted by the restaurant's employees and later ended in arrest, according to Maplewood Police.



They issued the following report today:

December 14, 2013, Robbery Attempt; At approximately 11 PM, a male with his face covered entered the Hunan Wok on Springfield Ave.  He displayed a handgun and demanded that the staff place the money inside of a backpack.  He was then confronted by the kitchen staff that were armed with knives and fled the scene without any proceeds.  The police department was contacted and responded.  Officers were able to track the males path back to a home on Colgate Rd.  Following an investigation on scene a juvenile was taken into custody for the robbery.  A search warrant was executed and a black BB gun was recovered along with the clothing worn by the juvenile during the robbery.  He was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.  Following processing he was transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Also in other local crime:
December 15, 2013; Robbery, A resident of Elmwood Ave reported that at
approximately 7 PM the previous day he was outside his home and was approached
by two males.  The males allegedly demanded money and displayed a handgun.  The two males then struck him once and fled into Irvington without any proceeds. 
The resident was not seriously injured and refused medical attention.

December 11, 2013, Theft; During the overnight hours a vehicle parked in the
driveway of an Orchard Rd residence had it’s muffler removed.

December 13, 2013, Theft; During the previous few days, license plates were
removed and stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Van Ness Ter
residence.
