GOLF ISLAND RESIDENTS LAUNCH PETITION FOR SPEED BUMPS

Golf Island, Maplewood
Some residents of Salter Place in Golf Island are petitioning the township for speed bumps to slow down traffic they contend is dangerous.

See the online petition HERE. It claims 74 signatures so far.

Organizer Chad Hunt posted the petition with this note:

Dear Neighbors --

First off let me say you are amazing! We have gathered so much momentum towards making our Golf Island Streets safer. We are only 5 households away from having enough to present our proposal to the Mayor.

If we get the signatures it doesn’t guarantee we will get speed bumps but it will be the first step in getting the town to do a "traffic calming study"  and hopefully they will come up with some solutions.

The traffic issues affect all of us in different ways but I have learned over the past week that most of us feel that something should change before a careless driver hurts someone we love. This started as a way to address the speeding problem on Burnett and Salter but after hearing from everyone I’ve learned that speeding is only part of the problem.  The drop off zones around the middle school are poorly managed, there are no cross walks and stop signs need to be placed throughout the neighborhood.

I am hoping you can help me to rally our fellow (and perhaps Facebook shy) neighbors to get 5 more households on the list and see what happens. We're so close! I know we can make our voices heard.
