NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Transit has launched a quiet car program during off-peak hours on trains that serve Hoboken Terminal.
Passengers can escape the noise of cellphone conversations and personal electronics between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The designated quiet commute car is the first car traveling to Hoboken and the last car leaving Hoboken.
Trains serving Hoboken Terminal include trains on the Morris & Essex, Montclair-Boonton, Pascack Valley, Main, Bergen County and Port Jervis lines, along with the 2300-series trains on the North Jersey Coast Line.
NJ Transit says it will evaluate the off-peak pilot program to determine whether to expand it across the rail system.
Quiet commute is available during peak hours on other rail lines.
