MAPLEWOOD FAMILY'S CHALLENGING HEALTH BATTLE

Zach Doubek
Few parents have had to endure the difficulties of Maplewood's own Joe and Marnie Doubek, whose son Zach has been struck with a challenging battle with MRSA, the sometimes deadly virus that has put him in the hospital for more than week.

(Listen to our interview with Marnie Doubek below)

Most residents heard about the Doubek's situation indirectly through a letter from Maplewood Middle School last week that informed MMS parents that a student had contracted MRSA, but little else.

Since then, the Doubeks have seen Zach face serious treatment for the infection that forced him to be placed in a paralyzed state and undergo powerful antibiotics, according to Ms. Doubek, who spoke with Maplewoodian.com on Monday.

She explained that Zach's infection had first occurred in his leg and spread through other areas and did not come from any skin infection as is often the case with MRSA. She also noted that the family had received good news on Monday when Zach opened his eyes and indicated an appetite and response to others.

But, in addition, she wanted to express thanks to the many residents who have offered both prayers and support, as well as tangible items such as food and other needs.

Ms. Doubek spoke at length with Maplewoodian.com in an interview Monday that is below. For more information on ways to help Zach and his family, go to lotsahelpinghands.com.

  1. Marnie Doubek is a doctor. You should address her as Dr. Doubek instead of Ms. Doubek.
