MAPLEWOOD POLICE INVESTIGATING INVASIONS OF PRIVACY

From Maplewood Police today:

The Maplewood Police Department is investigating invasions of
privacy incidents over the last month.
On 5/10 a few minutes past midnight, a resident of Burroughs
Way observed a white or Hispanic male standing on the rear
porch, looking through their sliding glass door.
The male was scared off and ran from the yard.  Approximately
30 minutes later, a Hispanic male, described as 20-30 years old,
5’3”-5’5” tall, clean shaven with black spiked hair, wearing dark
jeans with the front and back faded, a dark hooded sweatshirt
and black leather jacket was observed entering into the rear yard
of a home on Coolidge Rd.
A witness then observed the male walk back to the street between
10 and 15 minutes later.
The witness confronted the male who apologized and in doing so
was observed to have a “Spanish accent.” The male then walked
towards Irvington Ave and into Newark before the police were
contacted.  On 5/12 between 130 and 2 AM a resident of Boyden
Ave thought they heard someone whisper outside of their window.
In the morning they found paving stones stacked underneath two
of their windows.
On 5/15, a male identified as 19 year old Christian Rua, of Harding
St, Maplewood was stopped after peering into a window of a different
Boyden Ave home.  He was subsequently arrested for Trespass and was released.

The Maplewood Police Department takes these occurrences seriously and is actively
investigating them. We ask that residents be aware of their surroundings and report
any suspicious incidents in a timely manner.
