SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER GAUDELLI WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION

There will be at least one open Board of Education seat up for grabs this fall as Board Member Bill Gaudelli reveals he will not run for another term.

Gaudelli's seat is up for grabs along with those of Sandra Karriem and Andrea Wren-Hardin.

Gaudelli made his intentions known in a letter to residents below:

 Greetings Friends,

I wanted to send along a short note to let you know that I've decided that I will not seek a second Board of Education term in 2014.  It was a difficult choice as I've enjoyed my time representing this great community.  I have learned a great deal as a Board member and have been humbled by the opportunity to serve.  But I was recently named department chair at Teachers College, Columbia which promises to put many additional demands on my time.

I am very hopeful that the next person who takes up the responsibility to fill this seat will do so with the care and diligence required of this important office along with a commitment to doing what is in the best interest of all 6,700 students in SOMSD. I have purposely made this announcement well in advance of the filing deadline (July 28) so that people interested in serving have time to consider the possibility.  I would be more than happy to talk with anyone interested in running.

I am deeply indebted to many outstanding colleagues on the current Board and look forward to completing my term, set to expire in December, 2014.

Enjoy the summer!
