TUSCAN SCHOOL HALLOWEEN LIMITS SET

Last week, Seth Boyden School received heightened attention when it sought to cancel its Halloween celebration, but then reinstated it.

Today, Tuscan School announced it will hold its event as usual with a parade, but with a ban on masks that restrict vision, wearing costumes to school and declaring the use of costumes that "reflect violent themes, characters and weapon-like accessories are not allowed for our in school celebration."
  
A letter from Principal Malikah Majeed also notes, "the administration reserves the right to make the final decision on all attire." See the letter below:

Dear Tuscan Family,

Halloween in school is an opportunity for fun and merriment.  The traditional Tuscan School Halloween Parade will be on Friday, October 31 at 2:00 pm. The parade route provides an opportunity for our Kindergarteners to comfortably view the parade from a “Kindergarten Grandstand” on the blacktop.

Students are not to wear their costumes to school. Time will be provided for students to change into their costumes before the parade. Students are to bring costumes in a bag clearly marked with their name. We encourage costumes that can be put on in the classroom without requiring the use of bathroom facilities.

Ø  Classroom parties are scheduled by individual teachers. A Halloween Party Pass from your child’s classroom teacher will be required for entry into the building.

Ø  Children wishing to go home to change into their costume during Recess/Lunch, MUST bring a signed note from their parent/guardian.

Ø  Students with signed notes will be released to their designated pick up person through the front door at their scheduled Recess/Lunch time, printed on the reverse.

We all recognize that violent themes are inappropriate for a school celebration.  Therefore, costumes that reflect violent themes, characters and weapon-like accessories are not allowed for our in school celebration. Students will not be allowed to wear masks that obstruct or restrict vision. Because no dress code can be all inclusive, the administration reserves the right to make the final decision on all attire. Thank you in advance for guiding your child in selecting a costume that is most appropriate for school.
