BRAVO FOR HOLIDAY SPIRITUAL CONCERT, BUT IS IT LEGAL?

We stopped by the annual School District holiday choral concert Monday night at Columbia High School.

The performers included students from both middle schools and CHS, with this great song from the South Orange Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grades Chorus, perhaps the most powerful spiritual song ever written.

But is it a religious song? And as such is it allowed to be sung at a school concert?

You may recall that in 2008 a court ruling barred such songs from public school functions at South Orange Maplewood Schools.

To be clear, we have long believed such a restriction is ridiculous given that this is a holiday time of year when Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and other religious days are observed.

We actually applaud the choirs for singing such beautiful and spiritual tunes at this joyous time of year.

Below is the entire program. Do you think any of these songs should be barred?
