POST OFFICE DEVELOPMENT CHANGES INCLUDE HEIGHT INCREASE, NO AFFORDABLE UNITS

original post office project plan
Changes to the Maplewood Village post office site redevelopment project that Mayor Vic De Luca described as "complicated and difficult" were revealed to the Township Committee on Tuesday.

Among the changes are an increase in the project's height, from 45 feet to 52 feet, 9 inches, as well as the removal of a low-income housing requirement that had stipulated 10% of the housing units would be for low-income housing. Instead, the TC agreed to allow the developers, JMF Properties, to donate $100,000 to the Township's affordable housing relocation fund.

TC member India Larrier strongly disagreed with the low-income housing change, stating, "it does not set well with me ... the loss of affordable housing."

The Maplwood Village Alliance has already approved the changes.
