Maplewood Weather Emergency Notice

Maplewood Township, along with the State of New Jersey and the County of Essex issued a Snow Emergency effective 1:00 PM on Monday, January 26, 2015. Weather forecasts call for over a foot of snow and high winds to the area.

Prior Updates

Maplewood Township, along with the State of New Jersey and the County of Essex issues a snow emergency effective 1:00PM on Monday, January 26, 2015. Weather forecasts call for over a foot of snow and high winds to the area.

Due to the declared Snow Emergency the Maplewood Police Department issued the following notifications and recommendations to the public:
1. Any and all overnight street parking is prohibited until further notice. All street permits and permissions are hereby revoked and are not applicable during the snow emergency.
2. Any and all vehicles parked on any street or inhibiting emergency operations in violation of snow emergency parking restrictions are subject to summons and removal by tow.
3. The Board of Education prohibits parking in all BOE lots and property during the snow emergency.
4. Do NOT throw, place or plow snow into the roadways. Any individual who throws, places or plows snow into the roadways is in violation of Township Ordinance and is subject to a summons and fine.
5. Prepare for and remain alert to dangerous conditions that may develop and report emergencies by calling 911.
6. In the event of a power outage please notify your power company directly to report the outage.
7. All travel is discouraged during the storm.

Snow Storm Tips
The snow storm will likely result in downed tree limbs and power lines. Please take the proper precautions if your area is impacted including:
Trees, Limbs, Power and Gas lines:
• Downed power lines or exposed gas lines are not to be approached. The proper utility company should be contacted immediately to address any utility line hazards.
• Trees and tree limbs may be prone to failure from this weather event. Any employees outdoors should take care to reduce the chance of injury from falling branches, downed power lines, and automobiles on the road.
Snow Removal Tips:
• Removal all cars from the street. Do not shovel your driveway apron until you are sure the plows are finished plowing the street.
• If you see a salt truck or plow truck driving behind you, let them pass you so they can clear the way for you and open the roadways quicker.
January 26, 2015 2:59 PM Curbside recycling collections are suspended for the balance of today (Monday 1/26) due to snow and icy conditions on the roads. If your recycling has not been picked up by now, it will be collected at the next scheduled recycling collection on Monday, February 9, 2015.

PLEASE REMOVE ALL REMAINING RECYCLING MATERIALS AND CONTAINERS FROM THE ROADS.
