TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE APPROVES CELL ANTENNAS ON SPRINGFIELD AVENUE

The Township Committee this week gave initial approval to the placement of cell phone antennas on the side of the retail building at 1883 Springfield Avenue and Prospect Street.

Township Attorney Roger Desiderio presented a proposal at Tuesday's TC meeting to locate the cell antenna "hanging from a building" at the site by Verizon, which needs an easement from the Township.

When the TC asked why it cannot be placed on the building roof, he said he was told it would require structural support on the roof. He said Verizon was willing to pay a one-time $2,500 fee and the structure would be 18-to-24 inches outside of the building.

TC Member Jerry Ryan said it would likely have to go before the Planning Board as well. The TC approved a resolution, 5-0, to allow it to go forward.

If you are wondering how many cell antennas are in the area, this search at www.antennasearch.com found the following:
