TOWNSHIP REVIEWING POTHOLE PROBLEMS

If the recent winter weather effect on our pothole problem has you irked, you are not alone. Township Committee Member Jerry Ryan agrees and is pushing for a possible increase in pothole repair supplies.

At the Township Committee meeting last week, Ryan said the TC's Planning and Engineering Committee, which he chairs, is asking for an assessment of the problem to see if more asphalt and repair supplies are needed.

"I brought up the growing and popular topic of the potholes that are all appearing now that the snow is melting and the salt has done its wonderful damage," he said at the March 17 meeting. "We might consider perhaps going out and getting a little extra money to get a little extra asphalt to do some repairs. If you're like me, your constituents are complaining about the potholes."

Ryan said the committee asked Township Administrator Joseph Manning to do an assessment of the pothole issue and need for repairs.

TC member Marlon Brownlee asked about repair costs versus replacement costs for roads. Ryan said, "we're going to have to make some determination."

Manning pointed out, "the way potholes are repaired, patch versus repair, can make a difference in terms of the longevity of repairs."

Expect more info at the next meeting on April 7.
