SAD PASSING OF ANGELO VAYAS

We at Maplewoodian.com are saddened to hear of the death of Angelo Vayas, owner of Village Trattoria and a great Township friend.

See his obituary HERE.

Tributes have been pouring in from several areas.

From CHS Cougar Boosters:

Since the beginning of the CHS Booster Club Golf Tournament, Angelo has participated as a player, and generously offered prize packages for the raffle to help us raise money for the kids.   He always said, every year with no hesitation "Whatever you need, I'm in".  That’s the kind of guy he was.  He always thought about others, and how he could give back to help the community.

For as long as I can remember, Angelo’s restaurant was a sponsor of the little league teams in town. One year, I coached a team that both our sons played on, and not only did he sponsor the team, but he also showed up at all the games and the practice to show his support and to help out in any way possible. When the team would get a win, the celebration would always be at Angelo’s restaurant, and he would always insist it be his treat. Again, that’s the kind of guy he was.

From the Maplewood Chamber of Commere:

It is with much sadness that I share the news of the passing of Angelo
Vayas, owner of Village Trattoria. Angelo has been a fixture in Maplewood
Village for over 20 years. His commitment to the Maplewood/South Orange
community has been extraordinary.

His memorial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morrow Church in Maplewood, with a family receiving of friends today at Jacob Holle Funeral Home in Maplewood, 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. .

More on that HERE.
