MAPLEWOODSTOCK OVERNIGHT SPACE SAVING AND THE LAW

The new regulations limiting tents and canopies to the top two rows of the Memorial Park hill for Maplewoodstock have caused a lot more people to set up tents and leave them overnight.

This has also led to more people saving spots in the park for Maplewoodstock, with talk of sleeping in the park overnight to keep space saved.

We asked Police Chief Robert Cimino about the legality of this.

His email to us below:

There are various rules governing the activities in the Municipal Parks.
The most applicable Township Ordinances that apply to your question
are Chapter 193-4 and Chapter 193-23(D.)

Essentially Memorial Park is closed for "use" between 10:30 PM
and 5:00 AM, so sleeping overnight or erecting tents etc. is not permitted.

As to the response and enforcement of these ordinances, the "Officer in
Charge" of the shift will make a determination of the appropriate
course of action to take in terms of warnings or citations for
individuals found to be violating an ordinance based upon the
circumstances observed by the officers at the time.
