TWO SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES FILED SO FAR, MORE EXPECTED

Sabin and Maini
With just a few days until the deadline to run in the upcoming South Orange Maplewood Board of Education election this fall, just two candidates have submitted the proper paperwork to run.

Annemarie Maini of South Orange and Chris Sabin of Maplewood are the only candidates so far, according to the Essex County Clerk. The deadline to file is Monday, July 27.

Maini and Sabin released an announcement that they are running. It said, in part:

“We are excited to share with our many friends -- especially fellow parents -- that we’ve decided to throw our hats into the ring in this year’s school board election. We want to help make this a district of which we can all be consistently proud. We look forward to a hard and exhilarating campaign. Our goal is to meet thousands of people across the community in the next three and a half months. We are gratified that so many of our friends and neighbors have offered enthusiastic encouragement and pledged their active support throughout the campaign.

Three seats are up for grabs on the nine-person board. Those are currently held by incumbents Jeffrey Bennett, Madhu Pai and Wayne Eastman. Bennett has said he will not run again, while Pai and Eastman indicate they will seek another term, but have yet to file.
