NEW ANIMAL CONTROL DEAL DOES NOT INCLUDE PRIVATE PROPERTY DEAD WILDLIFE

Residents who have a wildlife animal die on their property will now have to dispose of the animal themselves under the Township's contract with its newest animal control provider, with an exception for deer and possibly rabid animals.

Approved by the Township Committee in July, the new agreement with St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center of Madison includes a change in service, according to a release from Health Officer Robert Roe on Friday.
Roe's release stated, in part:

1.     Dead wildlife on private property is to be removed by the resident. Residents should place the dead animal in a plastic bag for regular garbage removal.  Gloves can be worn and hands should be washed after handling the dead animal.  

2.      The Township will continue to pick up dead wildlife in the street.

3.      The Township will continue to remove dead deer.

Maplewood Contracts with St. Hubert’s for Animal Control and Shelter Services

The Township of Maplewood is now contracted with St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center for Animal Control Officer and shelter services.   St. Hubert’s shelter is located at 575 Woodland Ave. in Madison.  Telephone number 973-377-2295.  The following services will be supplied:

1.     Capture of stray dogs

2.     Removal of stray cats when they are in a trap or otherwise confined. 

        St. Hubert’s is cooperating with Furry Hearts Rescue in the Township 

        TNVR (Trap-Spay/neuter-Vaccinate against rabies-Release) program.   

        St. Hubert’s offers low cost spay/neuter services for stray cats.

3.      Removal of dead dogs and cats.

4.      Care for injured wildlife.

5.      Follow up for incidents involving dog and cat bites.

6.      Removal of wildlife that appears to be possibly rabid.

7.      Investigation of dangerous or dog abuse situations.

Other changes in animal control services include:
