SOME CHS STUDENTS' FIRST WEEK WITHOUT LOCKERS

Some Columbia High School students' had to endure their first week of high school without lockers.

Principal Elizabeth Aaron confirmed that there were some students who did not get locker assignments this week, but said it was less than 100. The school has an enrollment of more than 1,900.

"We are working as fast as we can," she said via email, but did not have an exact number. "We don't have a shortage and we appreciate students' patience (and that of their families) as we make sure we address all of our opening matters as efficiently as possible."

The waiting appeared to affect only freshmen since students use the same locker each year during their high school careers. Aaron gave no reason for the situation, but said it is not an annual occurrence.

In a letter to parents on Friday, Aaron indicated the locker assignments would not be completed until next Wednesday.
