GOP CANDIDATE'S ILLNESS CANCELS TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE DEBATE

One of the two candidates nights for the Township Committee race has been canceled due to illness involving Republican nominee Phyllis Scalera.

Nancy Rosenwasser, a League of Women Voters organizer, issued the following alert on Friday:

This is just to let you know that the League has had to cancel our plans for a MTC candidate forum on October 26th at The Woodland. Phyllis Scalera, the Republican candidate, cannot participate because of illness, and the League is unable to sponsor a forum of only Democratic candidates.

Scalera is running against Democratic nominees Greg Lembrich and Nancy Adams for the two open seats currently held by TC members Jerry Ryan and Kathy Leventhal. Leventhal is not running again and Ryan lost in the June primary.

Another candidates night set for the De Hart Center on Thursday, Oct. 15, is apparently still on, according to Lembrich. Although he said he had been informed Scalera would not attend that either and it would be more of a chance to meet the other candidates.

Scalera could not be reached for comment Friday.
