NEW RECYCLING DEAL SAVES TOWNSHIP NEARLY $31,000

Township curbside recycling costs will decrease by nearly $31,000 in 2016 due to a new contract with a new firm approved by the Township Committee on Tuesday.

The current recycling contract set to end on February 29, with Gaeta Recycling of Paterson, had cost $263,000 per year. But after a new round of bidding earlier this year, F. Basso Rubbish Removal Inc. of Irvington won the competition with a low bid of $232,440.

That was well under Gaeta's bid of $318,000.

You may recall, Gaeta won the contract a year ago after suing the Township claiming the previous bidding process in late 2014 was mishandled. A judge ordered that those bids be dismissed and a new process was conducted.

F. Basso will takeover the weekly service on March 1, 2016, with the first pick-up on March 7.
