NO TOWNSHIP WARMING CENTERS DURING DEEP FREEZE UNLESS POWER GOES OUT

While Essex County has opened several warming centers, mostly in Newark, to deal with the frigid temperature being forecast for the weekend -- and South Orange has done the same -- Maplewood will only do so if there is a widespread power outage, according to a notice issued today.

The notice stated, in part:

At the last Maplewood Office of Emergency Management (OEM) meeting prior to Winter Storm Jonas, the OEM Committee discussed the opening of warming centers. Warming centers are generally opened when there is a wide power outage for an extended period of time. In such event, the Maplewood OEM will look to activate the DeHart Community Center as a warming center.
In the event that the Maplewood OEM activates the warming center, the Township will post the warming center information and hours of operation in the Township's website, Newsflash message, as well as Facebook and Twitter pages. If you experience power loss you should report it to:
