BUDGET CUT DETAILS HIT COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL HARDEST

After dropping what amounted to a bombshell of budget cutback needs, including 20 staffers -- 10 of them teachers -- at the Feb. 22 school board meeting, the district on Wednesday revealed details of what positions are planned to be cut.

The biggest hit will be at Columbia High School, which would lose nine teachers and a guidance counselor if the cuts are implemented. The school board heard the details at the first of two budget hearings on Wednesday, with its next regular board meeting set for March 21.

That means the remaining guidance counselors will have to handle more students as the enrollment continues to increase, although just slightly.

See the specific staff cuts below:

Adminstrators:
Two supervisor positions in ELA and math.
One secretary.

One other post

Columbia High School:
Nine teachers (two science, two math, one English Language Arts, one social studies, one physical education, two world languages)
One guidance counselor

One media specialist
One dean
Two dean secretaries

Elementary Schools:
One instructional coach
Two academic interventionists
One classroom teacher.

Middle School:
Two teachers
One middle school media specialist
