MAPLEWOOD POOL LOSING MONEY; EVENT FEES TO INCREASE

The Maplewood Community Pool has been losing money for the last three years, the Township revealed on Tuesday, sparking plans to raise event fees and allow non-resident Township employee to join for the first time.

Township Administrator Joe Manning told the Township Committee on Tuesday night that the pool had lost more than $140,000 since 2013.

That, he said, prompted a need to raise fees for events at the pool, such as parties, birthdays and class trips. Most by an average of $25.

Annual membership fees, however, are not set to rise.

But the TC gave preliminary approval to plans allowing Township employees who do not live in town to join the pool for the first time. Manning said that would affect more than 200 Township employees.

"We're trying to increase the membership to help," he said.
