POST OFFICE SEWER LINE LEASE DEAL STILL UP IN THE AIR

Mayor Vic Deluca this week updated the Township Committee on efforts to procure the parking lot behind several Maplewood Avenue businesses needed to extend a new sewer line for the pending post office project.

As we have reported, the redevelopment of the site where the former Maplewood Village post office that will become a proposed three-story, 20-apartment, five retail shop complex is too much for the current Maplewood Avenue sewer line. A new sewer line is needed and is slated to run through the parking lot behind the buildings that run from Village Coffee to Arturo's.

The lot is currently leased from the building owners for about $11,000 in tax abatements. But that lease runs out March 6, this Sunday.

The Township had said that six of the seven owners had agreed in principle to sell their portions of the lot. But Deluca said Tuesday that there is still no deal and hinted that it remains unknown if it will be a sale or a new lease.
