SCHOOL LEAD TESTING FINDS JUST ONE WATER FOUNTAIN PROBLEMATIC

The school district completed its testing of lead in the water sources for all South Orange Maplewood Schools, finding that just one out of 145 water sources tested was problematic.

Superintendent John Ramos updated residents at the Thursday school board meeting, revealing that 145 sources across all the schools -- water fountains, kitchens, nurses offices and ice machines -- were tested and all but one were below the federal Environmental Protection Agency acceptable level of 15 parts per billion.

He said just one water fountain at Clinton School was above the acceptable level and has been removed and replaced. He did not say what the readings were for that water source.

Ramos said the results would be posted online, but have not yet.
