DAUGHERTY WILL NOT RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD RE-ELECTION

School Board Member Beth Daugherty will not run for re-election this year, she told Maplewoodian.com on Monday.

The nine-year board member and former board president declined to offer a reason, but said she will not seek another three-year term.

Daugherty's seat is up this year along with fellow incumbents Johanna Wright and Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad. Wright has said she plans to run again, while Lawson-Muhammad has yet to publicly decide.

This marks the second straight year that an incumbent has decided to leave the board. Jeffrey Bennett chose not to seek re-election last year, a move that prompted seven challengers who ran against incumbents Madhu Pai and Wayne Eastman. You may recall Eastman was defeated, while Pai was re-elected with newcomers Annemarie Maini and Chris Sabin.

Candidates have until July 25 to file to run in the school board election on November 8.
