MAPLEWOOD RAISES TOBACCO BUYING AGE TO 21

The age for buying tobacco products in Maplewood will be increased from 19 to 21 after the Township Committee on Wednesday voted to raise it.

TC members were unanimous, voting 5-0, to increase the age from the state minimum of 19 to 21 for cigarettes, tobacco, and even E cigarettes.

Health Officer Robert Roe said he had asked merchants about the impact and if they were opposed and said most were not: "The only comment I heard was from a few of them who said it was a good idea."
