JULY 4TH AND 5TH POLICE OVERTIME TOPS $43,000

The police overtime for July 4th and 5th will cost the Township more than $43,000, according to data supplied by the Maplewood Police Department.

During the July 4th festivities, police racked up $24,595.67.

But when the fireworks were cancelled due to rain, police had to return in similar numbers on July 5th, adding another $18,633.80 to the bill.

That means a total of $43,229.48, which is not covered by the wristband sales and must be paid from the Township budget.

In a related move, the delayed fireworks added another $2,500 to the costs absorbed by the July 4th Committee that is paid with wristband sales and no Township funds.
