POST-FIREWORKS DISORDERLY BEHAVIOR RESULTS IN JUVENILE ARRESTS

From Maplewood Police:

On July 5th at approximately 10 PM, officers 
responded to the area of Valley St and Crowell 
Pl on a report of a fight. 

Upon officers arrival, a large group was observed 
to be involved. 

Officers attempted to disperse the crowd of disorderly individuals
and were met with resistance and individuals refusing to leave the 
area. 

South Orange and Irvington Police Departments and several other 
agencies were called to assist in dispersing the crowd and 
monitoring their behavior. 

Several officers on foot as well as in police vehicles escorted the
group through several streets in an attempt to minimize and 
prevent further incidents from occurring. 

During the course of this several juveniles were taken into custody. 

The four juveniles that were arrested were charged with a variety 
of charges based upon their actions that included disorderly 
conduct, obstruction of the administration of law, resisting arrest, 
and aggravated assault on a police officer. 

The arrestees were three males from South Orange, two were 
15 years old and one was 16 year old, one male from Maplewood 
age 16.  The crowd eventually dispersed in the area of Elmwood 
Ave near the Irvington line.
