WELLS FARGO ROBBERY ATTEMPT ENDS IN ARREST

Maplewood police arrested a man on Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to rob the Wells Fargo Bank at Baker Street and Maplewood Avenue.

Police said the incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. and the man was later arrested in Jersey City, according to numerous reports. No one was hurt, but the bank was closed for the remainder of the day.

We will have more details as they are made available.

A Wells Fargo in nearby Summit also was the scene of an attempted robbery around the same time, but it is unknown if the two are related.

This attempted robbery is the first in the village since the Bank of America just a few blocks away was robbed in 2012. That ended in arrest and prompted the bank to hire a security guard.
