MAPLEWOOD FENCER HELPS OLYMPIC TEAM BRING HOME THE BRONZE

Ibtihaj Muhammad came to the Olympics determined to show that Muslim women can compete at a high level in American athletes. With the help of two teammates from New Jersey, she will leave here with everlasting proof that she was right.

A bronze medal. 

Muhammad, a Maplewood native, along with Dagmara Wozniak (Colonia) and Monica Aksamit (Matawan), defeated Italy 45-30 in the bronze medal bout of the team sabre event. Mariel Zagunis, a two-time individual gold medal winner, was the fourth member of team.
