SIX SEEKING TC APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE BROWNLEE, BUT NOT MCGEHEE

Six potential candidates to replace Township Committee member Marlon Brownlee have expressed interest in the post, but Democratic nominee Frank McGehee is not one of them, according to Democratic Chair Ian Grodman.

As the Democratic Central Committee prepares to meet on Wednesday to choose three nominees to be submitted to the Township Committee for consideration, Grodman said McGehee does not want to be considered for the appointment.

McGehee confirmed his situation in an email that stated:

I asked that I not be considered as I want the people of
Maplewood who supported me in the primary to know
that I respect the election process and their
vote and will continue to work for all of Maplewood.

Following Brownlee's surprise resignation on Aug. 2, the DCC is required to choose three potential replacements and submit them to the TC, which will choose a replacement from among those three.

That replacement will serve out the remainder of Brownlee's term, which ends on Dec. 31, 2016.

McGehee won the Democratic primary for the seat in June, while Republican Mike Summersgill took the GOP nomination. They will face off in November and the winner will take office on Jan. 1, 2017.
