WHY IS NJ TRANSIT PARKING AT THE POOL?

If you are wondering why NJ Transit has taken over part of the Maplewood Pool parking lot, it's part of a deal with the Township to lease space for its employees through next May.

Under the agreement, approved by the Township Committee on Aug. 2, NJ Transit is paying $10 per space per day up to $1,000 for the first month and up to $2,000 for each of the subsequent months.

That allows up to 100 cars per day while the pool remains open through Sept. 5, and up to 200 cars per day after Sept. 5. through June 1, 2017.

In the end, that could mean a revenue boost of up to $17,000 for the Town's coffers.

NJ Transit requested the space to allow parking for its employees while its garage on Springfield Avenue is undergoing renovations.

See the resolution and agreement HERE.
