GOP TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE CANDIDATE VOWS NO LAWN SIGNS; GOES "VIRTUAL" FOR CHARITY

Republican Township Committee Candidate Mike Summersgill says he will not use any lawn signs, according to a press release that says he is asking supporters to purchase a "virtual lawn sign"  for charity.

As his statement indicates, the virtual approach allows residents to go to a website and, for a $26 donation, they can offer their support online and have it placed on a map indicating who is supporting Summersgill and where.

And he said the revenue will not go toward his campaign, but toward one of three charities of choice.

He states in his release, in part:

“I have decided not to use lawn signs as part of my effort to get elected to Maplewood’s Township Committee in November. I have always found the signs distracting and I worry about the safety of placing them so close to crosswalks. Lawn signs are meant to draw attention and I’d rather have drivers’ eyes on the road, or my children, than a Summersgill sign. I understand my supporters still want a visible way to demonstrate their support and I am excited to announce the launch of my Virtual Lawnsign program."

“Starting today, you can purchase a Virtual Summersgill Lawn Sign at www.OpExGap.com/map/ for $26. When purchasing the sign, you will be asked to select a charity that you would like to support. Here’s the great part, 110% of all money donated to purchase lawn signs will go to the charities selected – that’s right, none of the money is going to the campaign committee. We’ll send a check to each organization for the total amount donated and a little extra from Mike in November before the close of the election.”

You can see a GoogleMap of all lawn signs at www.OpExGap.com/map/ -  Watch as your neighbors blanket our town with their support for Mike AND the YMCA, CHS Boosters, and Girls Helping Girls.Period. A great way to eliminate the waste and danger of traditional signs.

Summersgill is running against Democrat Frank McGehee for the lone open seat on the TC, which had been held by Marlon Brownlee. Brownlee first chose not to run again, then resigned last month when he relocated out of town.

The Township Committee last week appointed Ian Grodman to temporarily fill the seat through the end of 2017.
